The Stars and Stripes Proudly Wave
I remember as a little boy,
life was carefree and full of fun.
I'd climb the hills and fish the streams,
then bask in the afternoon sun.
And deep inside of every child,
was faith, reliance, and love,
in our Savior Jesus Christ,
and his guidance from above.
I attended a little school,
where proudly hung the red white and blue.
We held it in reverence and respect.
Our allegiance--no one could argue.
We learned of the blood and sacrifice,
shed during our revolution,
by brave men, women, and children,
to establish our constitution.
We treasured our land of the free.
We learned every state and capital.
We sang the Star Spangled Banner.
Our devotion--true and actual.
At times my family would make a plan,
to bring together our little band,
and travel across America,
our destination--Disneyland.
My feelings for America,
only grew stronger as I grew.
If I leave I soon come back.
My heart and soul warmed clear through.
I hold my hand over my heart,
or if in uniform I salute,
the stars and stripes of my birth,
my loyalty resolute.
But now I feel a new impression,
one that saddens and troubles my heart.
Many Americans and their leaders,
from this love of freedom depart.
I shudder when I watch and listen,
to our commander and chief who,
Doesn't cherish this promised land,
he breaks my heart right in two.
His call for social reform,
rips belief in Christ from our grasp.
Our faith in God and religion,
his desire, no longer us to clasp.
He supports a justice system,
that is divisive and corrupt.
Money and power are everything,
truth and honesty, he does disrupt.
But though I no longer trust,
our leaders in Washington,
I'll never lose faith in Jesus Christ,
this battle he's already won.
The victory's not won in government.
It's not won with policy.
It's won by men and women.
Faithful and true, it's you and me.
In God we Trust is our battle cry.
We'll fight as our forefathers fought.
We understand it will cost our blood,
But freedom again, must be bought.
Those of us that share undying love,
deep in our hearts through and through,
will maintain our hope and loyalty,
in our country's red, white and blue.
We must stand for integrity.
Be brave, supportive, and never cave.
So when Jesus returns in glory,
May the stars and stripes proudly wave.
Ezra Taft Benson, secretary of Agriculture over a half century ago, who later became the Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, proclaimed that the constitution wore God's stamp of approval, that it would not be saved in Washington, and that he believed the red white and blue would still wave over this land at the time of our Lord's triumphant return. He also warned that in order to maintain our freedom, American Blood would be spilt.
