Why Rid Christ from Us?
Why does our government,
with all its wealth and power,
try to rid Christ from our lives,
at this crucial and troubled hour?
Change your religious beliefs,
they endeavor to preach and say.
Put aside your trust in God,
he doesn't know you, anyway.
Don't worry, everyone does it,
is the way you should believe.
Reform, entitlement, and control,
are philosophies you should receive.
The American Flag, why have it?
Just let it fall by the wayside.
It was luck that we became free.
It's in man not God, we should have pride.
Prayer, scriptures, and attending church,
throw those virtues out the door.
Government will protect and care for you,
it's them, you must learn to adore.
But what about what I was taught?
He atoned for all my sins and pain,
such that his blood fell to the ground,
his wish, eternal life, that we might gain.
On Calvary, he carried up his cross,
and gave his precious life for me.
Forgive them, he was heard to say,
as they drove nails, and hung him on a tree.
But three days later, from the tomb,
he rose again as he had said.
That all mankind could live again,
he crushed that serpent in the head.
Now he's felt our pain and sorrow,
he knows us, loves us intimately.
He guides, blesses and warms us,
he's there carrying us, so tenderly.
His spirit I've felt throughout my life,
comforting and inspiring trust.
I love him, adore him, worship him,
it's those that don't believe--should readjust.
Come back to him, all you that say,
I'm better off with man's decree,
than in the arms of Christ our Lord,
whose plan, we can live happily.
Why push him aside when he's the one,
who will fight our battles strong,
with heavenly power, wise and just,
in him we can't go wrong.
Our country will forever stand,
as long as those with faith proclaim.
He is our deliverer, our salvation,
it's on his rock we will remain.
It is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat up on you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall. (Book of Mormon, Helaman 5:12)
For some time, my heart has been troubled as I witness the efforts of so many to remove Christ from among us. The yearnings of my heart, I placed in a poem.
